Great Days Out From Bristol Temple Meads
1. Bath Spa – 11 mins
A UNESCO World Heritage city packed with Georgian charm, Roman history, and boutique shops. Don’t miss the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and a stroll along the Royal Crescent.
2. Cardiff Central – 50 mins
Cross the Severn into the Welsh capital for shopping, waterfront dining, Cardiff Castle, and the Principality Stadium.
3. Weston-super-Mare – 35 mins
Traditional seaside fun with a sandy beach, pier, arcades, and coastal walks. A family-friendly favourite.
4. Bradford-on-Avon – 35 mins
A picturesque small town with canal walks, independent shops, and charming cafés — like a miniature Bath without the crowds.
5. Wells (via bus from Bath or train to Castle Cary + taxi)

The Bank Pub, St John Street
Dubbed the pub that is “worth the wait” with a Sunday lunch that has a four-year booking backlog, you’ll be surprised to know that they also do lunches on OTHER days. Hidden a hop,skip and a jump away from our Duel of Bristol House, and it was our local when we were working from the Old City for good reason.

Froth and Fries
Amazing burgers and craft beers.. the aromas coming out of this place are mouth-watering! Another independent local business, the F&F team have created a lovely place with outdoor seating just two doors up from our Old City Duel of Bristol House. Landlord and friend Mike Harris, has worked hard with his team to perfect a menu compliments the perfect pint of crafty beer.

St Nicholas Market: one of our favourite place for lunch!
No stay in Bristol’s Old City is complete without a visit to St Nicholas Market, one of the city’s most beloved foodie destinations. Housed in a stunning Georgian arcade, this indoor food hall is packed with independent traders serving up flavours from around the world — from fresh falafel wraps and Caribbean curries to gourmet pies, Ethiopian stews and handmade cakes. Open Monday to Saturday, it’s a vibrant, affordable and authentic taste of Bristol life — just a short stroll from your front door.

Bristol’s own piece de Paris on Broad Street! So good they’re franchising all over the UK… but they started in Bristol first. Perfect for your Old City breakfast… you can’t beat a crepe or a galette to deal with an Old City hangover!
